Travel from Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem or Tel Aviv:

To Jerusalem: Outside the arrival hall you will see signs pointing to Nesher airport shuttle. This system works like Super Shuttle in the U.S. where you pay a set fee (around $16) and travel by van to a hotel or private residence. You can also ask to be taken to the central bus station if you want to catch a bus to Kiryat Shemona.

To Tel Aviv: You can catch a bus from the airport to the central bus station in Tel Aviv, but they are limited to day-time hours.

Travel to Kiryat Shemona from Jerusalem:

The bus company running from Jerusalem to the north is Egged (www.egged.co.il). The site www.bus.co.il provides information about Egged as well as other bus companies.

There is only one direct bus (963) from Jerusalem to Kiryat Shemona (henceforth, Q8), the town nearest to Kibbutz Kfar Szold. However, it only runs once a day: 13:45, arriving at 17:00 in Q8. The cost is 49.50 shekels (around $14). It departs from the Central Bus Station (henceforth, CBS) in Jerusalem. The bus stops briefly in Tiberias, but the end of the line is Kiryat Shemona. So stay on the bus until it arrives in Q8.

If you can’t catch this one direct daily bus, you need to take the bus to Tiberias and transfer from there to the bus to Q8.
There are two bus lines that go from Jerusalem to Tiberias – 961 and 962. Try to avoid 961 as it stops at just about every intersection on the way! The 962 has fewer stops and runs every 30 to 40 minutes – please look up the exact times on the Egged bus company site www.egged.co.il. This trip takes around 2.5 hours and costs 44 shekels (around $12.50).

If you take the bus to Tiberias, you will need to take another bus to Q8, around a 25 minute ride. One option is to take the bus that runs frequently from Tel Aviv to Q8 (No. 841), but stops in Tiberias on the way. You can look up the exact schedule on the website above. The 841 (and 842, 845, wee below) stops very close to where you get off the bus from Jerusalem.

Another option is to take Egged Bus No. 63 (a local line) which runs from Tiberias to Q8, but it only runs a few times a day. When you get off the bus from Jerusalem, you will need to ask someone at the CBS in Tiberias so they can direct you to the pertinent bus stop.

Travel to Kiryat Shemona from Tel Aviv:

The bus lines that run from the CBS in Tel Aviv to Q8 are 841, 842 and 845. Do NOT take the 841 as it stops at every intersection and takes around 5 hours! The other two lines are much quicker (if you call 3 hours and 45 minutes ‘quick’!). These two lines runs rather frequently and it is best to look up the time schedule on the Egged bus company website (www.egged.co.il). Buses in Tel Aviv depart from the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station.

When you arrive in Q8, call Nava (054-4403487) and we will arrange to come pick you up. If you don’t have a cell phone, you can ask a passerby to use his or her phone; generally Israelis are happy to comply and help out.
