Accommodations

During the excavation, our home away from home is at serene and verdant Kibbutz Kfar Szold, a 10 minute drive from the tell (helps a lot at 4:30 a.m. to have a short drive!). Accommodations are in air-conditioned units that house three to four people, with kitchenette, shower and large front porch. The units are cleaned twice a week and linens are changed once a week; towels are unlimited. Meals are taken in the kibbutz dining room, aside from breakfast which we eat on the tell during dig days. The kibbutz has a swimming pool and sports’ facilities, as well as a convenience store and a lovely (secret!) spring on its grounds. Internet is available in all the rooms and in public spaces (www.bakfar.co.il). Meals are kosher and we accommodate dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan and food sensitivities.

Schedule

We dig five days a week, from Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday free. Departure from the kibbutz is at 4:30 a.m. (yes, you heard right!) and the dig day in the field ends at 13:00. During the course of excavation, we break for breakfast and tea and fruit. We return to the kibbutz for a hot lunch.

Extra Dig Activities

After a much-deserved siesta from after lunch until 4:30 p.m., activities pick up with pottery washing and sorting, data entry, microarchaeological processing, and general office work that dig participants are welcome to take part in. Lectures will be given once or twice a week on topics of general archaeological and historical interest. We also offer guided field trips to sites of archaeological and biblical interest in the Galilee, such as Tel Dan and Tel Hazor, and the Sea of Galilee, during the free weekend days, for separate payment and registration (details TBA).

PLEASE SEE OUR “TEAM GUIDE’ FOR MORE INFORMATION. AND PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.
